Orca Prompter · Mac and Windows · Teleprompter
Part of OrcaRead your notes and keep looking them in the eye. Only you can see it.
Orca Prompter puts your script on a see-through card at the top centre of the screen, just under the camera, so your eyes stay where the lens is while you read. Write the words yourself, or load the brief Orca already prepared for today's meeting. The card is left out of screen sharing, screenshots and recordings, so the people on the call see you, not your notes.
Prompter is part of Orca, from Orca 4.0.14 on Mac and 4.0.4 on Windows. Open it from More, then Prompter, from the menu bar or tray icon, or with the shortcut.
Write it, show it, read it.
Open More, then Prompter. There is nothing else to install and nothing to configure first.
Write a script, or load a brief
Type or paste what you want to say. Or pick a meeting from today or tomorrow and load the brief Orca prepared for it, with the open threads and the points worth raising.
Show in prompter
A see-through card opens at the top centre of the screen, just under the camera. Your eyes stay close to the lens, so on the call it looks like you are talking to them, because you are.
Scroll at your own pace
Space starts and stops the scroll. Set the speed, the text size and how see-through the card is. Move it where you like and it remembers the spot next time.
Only you see it
On your screen. Not in their screen share.
The prompter window is marked to be left out of screen capture. Share your whole screen in a call and the card is not in it. Take a screenshot, or record with Orca Screen or Orca Snap, and it is not in that either.
Mac, and Windows 10 version 2004 or later
On Mac, and on Windows 10 version 2004 or later, the card is excluded from screen capture by the operating system itself. That covers Zoom, Teams, Google Meet and any other app that shares or records the screen.
Close to the lens, by design
The card sits at the top centre, just under the camera, because that is where your eyes need to be. Read a line and you are still looking, near enough, at the person you are talking to.
Run it from the keyboard while you talk.
No mouse, no hunting for a window mid-sentence. The keys work while the card is showing.
Space
Starts and stops the scroll. Pause for a question, carry on when you are ready.
Arrow keys
Up and down scroll by hand. Left and right switch between your scripts.
Plus and minus
Make the text bigger or smaller. Esc hides the card, and the shortcut brings it back.
Why not a teleprompter app
A hidden teleprompter is a good idea. This is that, already loaded with what you need to say.
Paid teleprompter apps such as Oculta do the hiding well. What they cannot do is know what the meeting is about. You still have to write the notes, copy them across and remember to open the thing.
Orca has already written the notes. The brief for today's meeting, with the open threads and the promise outstanding, is one click from the prompter. Load it, show it, talk.
And it is one fewer subscription. You are running Orca anyway for the inbox and the calendar. The prompter is just there, in the same licence.
How it fits
Small tool, three neighbours.
Brief writes what you load, Meet records the call you read it in, and Screen records the video you script.

Questions people ask
Does it show on my screen share?
No. The prompter window is left out of screen sharing, screenshots and recordings, including recordings made with Orca Snap and Orca Screen. The people on the call see your screen without the card on it.
Does it work in Zoom, Teams and Google Meet?
Yes. The card is left out of any screen share or recording on Mac, and on Windows 10 version 2004 or later, whichever app is doing the sharing. It is the operating system that hides it, so it does not depend on the meeting app.
Where do the scripts come from?
You write them, or you load a meeting brief. Type or paste a script in Prompter, or pick a meeting from today or tomorrow and load the brief Orca prepared for it. Keep several and switch between them with the arrow keys.
How do I open it?
More, then Prompter, inside Orca. Or press ⌘⌥P on Mac, Ctrl+Alt+P on Windows, or use the Orca icon in the menu bar or tray. Esc hides it again.
Is it extra?
No. Prompter is part of Orca and comes with the same licence as everything else on this page.
Your notes in front of you. Not in front of them.
